“Alex, I want you,” Walker murmurs, his voice husky with passion.

Alex jumped, dropping the plate she had been washing.  She couldn’t see him, but she could tell from the tone of his voice exactly what he meant.  She stood still, trying to control her emotions.

She slowly turned around, trying to keep her voice calm, “What was that, Walker?”

Walker was standing in the doorway.  His face flushed, his eyes dark with desire and a slight smile on his lips. “You heard me, Alex.”

It was finally happening. Now, after years of waiting for him to look at her like this, to want her like this, her dream was finally coming true.  Her body was reacting to his voice in a way that she could not control.

“Walker,” her voice trembling a little, revealing her inner emotions.

He quickly stepped up to her, putting his fingers to her lips, and looking at her with fire in his eyes.  “Shhh.”

Silence filled the room.  His arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her close.  She could feel his heart beating hard against his chest, and she was sure he could feel hers.  She had wanted this for so long.  Why was she nervous?

“I didn’t think I could ever want anyone as much as I want you right now,” Walker murmured.  “I’ve tried for so long to deny how I felt about you, but I can’t do it any longer.”

Alex nodded her head, not trusting her voice and not wanting to break the spell with words.

“I know that you have feelings, like everyone else. I know that you want what we all want—to be loved, needed, cared for and aroused.” Alex felt her cheeks grow warm.  His voice was soft, barely a whisper and it was so sexy.

She had always tried to be Alex Cahill, Deputy District Attorney, calm, professional, and in control. It was something she felt she had to do to be an effective DA; a front she had put up, but with this man, she had never been able to hide her feelings.

“You’ve always been there for me, Alex; made me feel loved, needed and aroused.” Her eyes widened when he said this. He had known all along how she had felt about him. Of course, the way she acted around him, she figured everyone knew how she felt, except him, or so she thought. Her feelings for Walker were the one thing she couldn’t come to terms with. Where he was concerned she acted before thinking, sometimes putting her job in jeopardy. Why? Because she loved him, had loved him for what seemed to her like forever.

“Alex, I’ve tried to pretend there was nothing between us because of the job that I have. It always seems to put anyone that I care about in danger. I thought if I ignored my feelings for you, the feelings would go away.  They haven’t gone away, though, they’ve only gotten stronger and I can’t pretend any longer.  I know you care for me, at least I hope you do.”

She just nodded.

“I can’t…we can’t go on like this.” She thought her heart would burst, it was pounding so hard.  She nodded, and as Walker pulled her closer, she put her hands up to his chest.

As he leaned in to kiss her she closed her eyes, feeling the soft touch of his lips against hers causing a shiver to run through her.  “Alex, look at me,” he whispered.

She willed her eyes to open and the desire in his eyes was sending tremors coursing through her body. As he bent to kiss her again, she felt the warmth and softness of his lips and opened her mouth to accept his tongue. He pulled back, ending the kiss too soon. She leaned in to him, wanting him to kiss her again. But instead he put his lips to her throat, then traced his tongue over her ear and behind her earlobe. He moved his hand to the front of her shirt, barely touching her, tracing his finger over the exposed skin at her throat, sending sensation after sensation coursing through her body. He began unbuttoning her shirt and as the shirt parted revealing her lacy white bra, he dipped his head and kissed her breast just above her bra.

“Do you want me to stop, Alex?” He said with a quivering breath.

“Oh, God, Walker,” Alex gasped as she let her head fall back slightly, closed her eyes, and moved her hands to his hair, threading her fingers through it and holding him close to her, not wanting him to stop. He continued to kiss her breast moving closer and closer to her nipple.

“Walker…” Alex started to say, and then she felt his lips through the material of her bra, close over her already hardened nipple.

She pulled his head closer and moaned softly. She heard him groan softly in response, then he stepped back, scooped her up and quietly carried her to the bedroom.

He stood in the doorway staring at her, wanting her.  She was standing at the kitchen sink with her back to him and he was enjoying the view very much!  She was just wearing leggings and a top but she looked incredibly beautiful.

“I want you, Alex”, he mumbled in a low, seductive voice.

She dropped the glass she had been washing and just stood there, frozen.  Walker smiled; this was the reaction he had expected since he had never uttered words like that out loud before.

Alex turned from the sink and stared back at Walker, her mind reeling.  He could see she was trying very hard to maintain her composure.  “What did you say, Walker?”

“You heard me,” he said as he crossed the kitchen floor, trapping her between his body and the sink.  He wrapped his arms around her waist as she placed her hands on his chest.  Her face was flushed and he could feel her body tremble.

As he stared into her eyes, he said, “Alex, I can’t do this anymore.  I can’t ignore my feelings for you any longer.  I want you so much!”  He pulled her closer and began kissing her, softly at first brushing his lips against hers and then claiming her lips with his in a deep, passionate kiss.

As soon as Walker began kissing her, he felt Alex relax in his arms and return his kiss with as much, if not more, passion than he felt himself.  Needing to breathe, Walker reluctantly broke off the kiss but continued to hold her tight against him.

Alex didn’t say a word, but her eyes burned bright with desire.  She gently pushed Walker back but never moved her hands from his chest.  Instead she slowly began unbuttoning his shirt.  As each button was freed, more and more of Walker’s powerful chest was exposed.  Alex stroked his chest, loving the feel of his muscles under her hands.  She then lowered her head and began kissing his chest.

The feel of her lips and tongue on his chest caused Walker’s body to react immediately.  Alex smiled as she felt his arousal.  His chest was on fire!  The sensations were so incredible that Walker thought he would explode if she didn’t stop soon.  He wondered why he had waited so long to show Alex how he felt.  She obviously felt the same way about him.  As Alex kissed and licked her way back to his waiting lips, Walker decided it was his turn to excite her.

He kissed her lightly on the lips and then as he trailed light, butterfly kisses down her neck, he slowly slid his hands along the sides of her thighs; up over her hips and under her top to the smooth, silky skin of her back.

Alex tensed slightly at first but then relaxed as a small moan escaped her.  Walker caressed her back as he claimed her lips again with his.  Then, backing away slightly, he began pulling her top up over her head.  Alex put her arms in the air and within seconds was standing before him, naked from the waist up, with her arms around his waist.  Walker marveled at her beauty as he caressed her shoulders and arms.  He kissed her hard on the lips and then began kissing his way down her chest to her waiting breasts.  He massaged them with his thumbs and watched as her nipples rose to hardened peaks.  He dipped his head to suckle each breast until Alex moaned with pleasure.

Alex could stand it no longer.  She placed her hands on either side of Walker’s face and brought it back up to meet her lips.  Her kiss was deep, penetrating and filled with desire.  Alex broke off the kiss, took Walker’s hand in hers and led him to the bedroom to finish what they had started.

Alex bolted upright in bed, her breathing heavy and labored, her emotions running wild. As her breathing slowly returned to normal, she quickly glanced around the bedroom.  It looked the same as it had when she had gone to bed.  He isn’t here, she realized, as her heart dropped like lead to her stomach.  A dream--only a dream, but it seemed so real! With a sigh of disappointment, she lay back down knowing she would be getting very little sleep for the rest of the night.

Walker awoke with a start, gasping for air and wet with sweat.  He took a deep breath trying to slow his breathing and lay in bed staring at ceiling—3:00 a.m. again!  This was the third night in a row that he had had the same dream.  He was beginning to think that the spirits were trying to tell him something and maybe it was time he started listening!  Knowing that he would never get back to sleep, Walker decided to get up and get an early start on his workout.

As Walker pulled into the parking lot of the courthouse, he noticed Alex just getting out of her car.  She waved and waited for him so that they could walk together.  Walker greeted her with a kiss on the cheek and placed his arm around her shoulders for a small hug.  It was not until they had gotten on the elevator that Walker noticed how pale and tired Alex looked.  A look of concern crossed his face as he asked, “Alex, are you all right?”

“Huh…oh, yeah, just didn’t get much sleep last night.  Actually, I was about to ask you the same thing.”

“I’m fine, but I haven’t been sleeping very well the last few nights either.”

“Few nights?  Anything you want to talk about?”

Expecting his normal negative response, Alex was quite surprised when Walker replied, “Yeah, but not here, maybe later?”

Since Walker rarely voluntarily wanted to talk, Alex decided that she better pursue this before he changed his mind.  “How about tonight, my place, around 7:00?  I’ll fix us some dinner and then we can talk.”

As the elevator doors open, Walker says, “Okay, sounds good.”

“You and Trivette going to C.D.’s for lunch today?”

“I doubt it.  We have a lot of leads to follow up on in connection with the robbery case we’re working on.  You?”

“No, I have depositions at 10:00 and 2:00 so I don’t think I’ll have time to go out for lunch, if I even get lunch.”

“Well, if I don’t see you later today, I’ll see you tonight at your place.”

“Okay.”  She kisses him lightly on the cheek and disappears into her office.

The day progresses uneventfully for both with Walker and Trivette following up leads on their robbery case and Alex attending depositions.  By 5:00, both are exhausted and looking forward to a quiet evening together.

Walker arrives at Alex’s a little before 7:00 and is stunned when she answers the door wearing an outfit almost identical to the one in his dream.  He just stands at the door staring.

“Walker?  WALKER!  Are you going to come in or are you planning to spend the entire evening in the hallway?”

“What?  Oh, sorry.”  He steps through the doorway.

“Are you sure you’re all right?”

“Yeah.  Guess I’m more tired than I thought.”

“Well, why don’t you pour us both a glass of wine and relax.  Dinner is just about ready.”

“Okay.  Smells great!”

Walker pours them each a glass of wine and wanders over to the sliding doors to look at the Dallas skyline.  The sun is just beginning to set and the view is quite beautiful.  Lost in thoughts about how to approach the “US” subject, he doesn’t notice Alex until she slips her arm around his waist and rests her head on his shoulder.  He puts his arm around her shoulders and gives her a hug, kissing the top of her head.

“What are you thinking?” Alex asks.

Preferring to wait until after dinner to get into this conversation, Walker simply replies, “Just admiring the view.”

They stand in silence for a few minutes, both lost in their own thoughts.  The oven timer buzzes bringing them both back to reality.

Dinner is wonderful with light conversation.  Alex tells Walker about her depositions and he fills her in on the robbery case he and Trivette are working on since she will probably be the one prosecuting the case once the robbers are caught.

As they finish dinner, Alex says, “Walker, it’s a little chilly in here.  Why don’t you start a fire and pour us some more wine while I clear the dishes.”

Walker takes their glasses and the wine bottle to the living room and within a few minutes has a roaring fire going in the fireplace.  He moves the coffee table and places the blanket from the sofa on the floor.  He then takes the pillows scattered around the room and places them on the blanket making a cozy nest.  He decides to get comfortable, removing his gun holster and boots.

Walking to the kitchen to check on Alex’s progress with the dishes, he is dumbfounded to find her in the exact position in the kitchen that she was in his dream.  How can this be happening?  He leans in the doorway and watches as Alex finishes the dishes.  She is so incredibly beautiful!

“I want you, Alex,” he mutters, not even realizing he has spoken out loud until he hears the glass she was holding fall back into the dishwater.  He smiles—“same reaction I got in my dream,” he thinks.

Alex can’t believe what she just heard!  “Am I dreaming again or did he really say that?” ‘This is too strange,’ she thinks.  She stands frozen at the sink for a moment then turns to face him, trying desperately to remain calm.

“What did you say?”

“You heard me,” he replied as he walked toward her, his face flushed and his eyes burning.

Before she can move, he is right in front of her, trapping her body between his and the sink just like in her dream.  He puts his arms around her waist and pulls her tightly to him.

“Alex, I know this is way out of character for me, but I just can’t go on lying to myself any longer.  I love you, I’ve loved you for a long time but I was just too stubborn to admit it.”

Looking into his eyes, she sees all the love and desire he has been trying to hide for so long.  She still can’t believe that her dream is coming true.

Walker continues, “The reason I haven’t been sleeping these last few days is because I’ve been dreaming about you—about us, about tonight.  The reason I seemed out of it when I arrived was because you answered the door wearing nearly the same outfit that you were wearing in my dream and then, just now, when I walked into the kitchen, it was as if I was dreaming again.  I guess the spirits are trying to tell me something.”

Finally finding her voice, Alex replies “Well, cowboy, the spirits must be talking to me too!  A dream, THIS dream is the reason I didn’t get much sleep last night.  As a matter of fact, I’m still wondering when I’m going to wake up and find that this, too, is a dream!”

Walker smiled as he stared deep into her blue eyes. “So, where to we go from here?”

Alex smiled back with a twinkle in her eye, “Well, we wouldn’t want to disappoint the spirits, now would we?”

Walker chuckled, “No, I guess not.”

“Are you sure this isn’t a dream?”

“Alex, I promise you, this is real!  He then leans forward and brushes her lips lightly with his.  Alex closes her eyes as waves of excitement course through her body.  “Alex, open your eyes,” he whispers.

She does just as he leans to claim her lips again with his.  He kisses her like he has never kissed her before, making her body tremble with desire.  They part, reluctantly, after several minutes, both finding it hard to catch their breath.  Walker sweeps her off her feet and carries her to the living room, placing her gently on the blanket in front of the fire.  He retrieves their wine from the table and joins her on the blanket.

Raising his glass in a toast, he says “To new beginnings.”

“To new beginnings, Alex replies lightly clinking her glass against his.

Replacing the glasses on the coffee table, Walker takes Alex in his arms and kisses her, rolling to his back and positioning her on top of him.  She breaks off their kiss and repositions herself so that she is straddling him.  She softly strokes his beard, never taking her eyes from his.  She marvels at how much he communicates with his eyes.  Words do not come easily to Cordell Walker, but his eyes, he could speak volumes with his eyes.  Walker once explained that Uncle Ray used to say that the eyes were the window to the soul and that the eyes never lied.  Looking into Walker’s eyes, she saw love, desire and passion.  She knew that this night was the start of something wonderful for them.

As the fire burned in the fireplace, so burned the fire within Walker and Alex.  Alex began unbuttoning Walkers shirt and began gently stroking his chest, tracing each muscle, and caressing his nipples with her thumbs.  He couldn’t believe how good this felt.  He had never experienced this kind of pleasure with anyone before.  Walker moaned as Alex leaned forward and took his nipple in her mouth, playing with it with her tongue and biting it gently.  She then slowly slid down and began to unbuckle his belt.

Wanting, no, NEEDING to pleasure her, Walker sat up and wrapped his arms around Alex, holding her close, kissing her neck and throat.  She pushed the shirt from his shoulders and he removed it, tossing it haphazardly onto the couch.  He then began unbuttoning her shirt, longing to feel her full, round breasts.  He slipped the shirt from her shoulders and began massaging her breasts through the material of her bra.  Alex’s head dropped back as the waves of pleasure assaulted her body.  She wanted this cowboy, wanted to feel him inside her, wanted to feel his love.

Taking his face in her hands, Alex brought his head up, looked him in the eye and begged, “Walker—make love to me—NOW!”

He rolled over so that he was now on top and stood, reaching his hand out to help her up.

“I never have been very good at saying ‘No’ to you,” he smiles.

She takes his hand and says, “Well, I certainly hope you’re not going to start now!”

He sweeps her off her feet, saying,  “I wouldn’t dream of it!” and carries her down the hallway to the bedroom to finish what they started.

As they lay spent in each other’s arms, Alex looks up at Walker and says, “I guess sometimes dreams really do come true.”

Walker smiles and pulls her close.
